about schema |

I'm very new in xml stuf. I understand the xml schema is good and promissing. I do not understand just how I can use it in my needs. For example, for for "into xml" or "to xml" translations. Do I need some external tool, or I have to develope kind of translational (and verificational, of couse) program.
Excuse me, I m realy just getting start with it |

Yes and no. All of these documents should be separate (your stylesheet, your schema, your main XML document, etc.), and an external application of some sort can be used to "merge" all these together. For example, a trivial Java program could be written to take an XML document, validate it against a Schema, and if valid apply a stylesheet to transform it into a new document.
However, there are also ways of doing this in the XML document itself called Processing Instructions. PIs in effect allow you to tell the parser to do extra stuff with the document. For example, if you included this PI in your document <?xml version="1.0"?><?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="XSDdocumentation.xsl" ?> and then opened the document with a parser, like say Internet Explorer, it would know to not display the original XML document, but rather apply the stylesheet and display the output. In addition to Stylesheets, there are PIs to validate apply a Schema when parsing the doc. Now of course, the big thing is whether or not the parser you're using will support these PIs, but most typically do. -BKN |
