This thread is started to discuss the impacts of the name "xmlPimp". What do you think of it? It's stirred up quite a commotion wherever it's mentioned. It has some rather interesting implecations, both positive and negative.

Before we dive too deeply into this, I recommend reading our WhitePaper which discusses both the purpose of the application, but also the history behind it's name. Also note that this is the development name for the product, and may (or may not) change. We intend on letting the beta period tell us.

As to the negative implecations, the only real negative is the association with a social poor profession, someone who utlizes prostitutes for money. This can be frown upon by some of the bigger companies out there, afraid to touch such a product with a ten foot pole.

The positives are being seen rather quickly. The name is very eye-grabbing. We've received many downloads in a very short time, and I highly doubt it's due to the product itself, but more to scratch the curious vibe of "what sort of product would call itself pimp?". So that seems to be a good thing, the name is selfadvertising.

Also, it pushes forward the scrappy attitude that a lot of XML developers really have. Once you get beyond that first "shock" factor of the name and actually try the product, you find it's really not that big of a deal. In fact, it brings a lot of attention from others, then they try it, etc.

And lastly, can you imagine what the SysOnyx Inc booths will be like at different conferences? ;)
