New Version? |

I evaluated XMLinguist and read there was a new version on the works which seemed extremely appealing. Any news on this? The SysOnix website is woefully out of date (coming in 2004!), which worries me a bit...

My bad. With the release of xmlDraft and a lot of effort put into other products (notably xmlLynx and xmlDig), the website has a few pages that need updating.
We are working on a new version of xmlLinguist, with the following features to be included: - Bug fixes in the engine - Visual facelift (from Win2k to WinXp look & feel) - Better error handling - streaming technology in the engine (currently everything is done in-memory) - Minor bug fixes in Mapper - Better Unicode support There is no set release date, though we will release the engine LTE before xmlLinguist in stages. I would look for engine releases in March, and GUI releases in April/May. -BKN |

Desired features:
Will the new version support multiple files? That would be sweet. Will the new version do anything with auto-positioning fixed-width fields? It's a real pain to map out a loooooonnnnng record, then have to change a width in the middle of the record. An older post of yours questioned whether there should even be a position property. I agree, that helps with translating. The GUI program, however, should have features like an auto-position button to reset these numbers. How about copying and pasting entire records and/or fields? That would help a lot. Ditto for copying/pasting from an excel spreadsheet. Many vendors supply their flat-file mappings as a spreadsheet. It would be way cool to arrange the spreadsheet columns to the same order as the xmlLinguist columns, then copy and paste the excel rows into xmlLinguist. As always, I am definitely up for beta-testing any of the products. Thanks.... |

What do you mean by "multiple files"?
Copy/Paste-ing of nodes is on the to-do list. And importing from Excel is an interesting thought, I'll have to look at that one in more details. -BKN P.S. How did the MapSource LTE tweak work? |

You know...opening more than one LTM file at the same time, with tabbed interface, and an mru file list. Like xmlHack can do.

The mru is on the list, however I have to think about a multi-document approach. Whenever I'm working on more than one document, I just have multiple xmlLinguist's running.

Unfortunately not yet, it has been delayed again. We are still working on it, slowly but surely. For a preview of what the visuals will look like, download the xmlDig beta ( www.sysonyx.com/products/xmldig ). I know this does not say anything about the engine nor feature changes, and they are still on our task lists. Tenatively, I would say look forward to a release in Q4 of this year.
